Sentencing Committee Minutes November 14, 2005 Present: Marge Webster, Chair; Dale King, Bill Knowles, Dave Kidder, Mark Putney, Lew Feldstein. Meetings: Group favored less frequent and longer meetings. Mondays and Friday s preferred dates of those in attendance, as they do not conflict with the Legislature, an issue for Bill and Dave. Next two meetings set for 11/28 9-12; and 12/9 9-12. Marge to inform group which meeting will be in Concord and which in Tamworth. Concord meeting to be hosted by NH Charitable and Lew will send directions to all. Email addresses and contact information to be circulated by Kathy and staff to entire Committee. Work Plan: Group agreed to address current practices of Alternative Sentencing and Mandatory Sentencing. Group is open to other issues as well under the broad topic of sentencing. Background materials: • Marge agreed to provide the group with some written material describing current Alternative sentencing practices in the state, including the Academy Program, and the state funded alternative sentencing programs, and the Drug Courts. • Marge also agreed to look for materials reporting on what other states are testing and doing. • Lew will check with Doug Hall at Public Policy Center on recent report that they did on Academy. • Bill Knowles will circulate info on current NH state Mandatory sentencing laws.
